We are now in Newark, New Jersey. We welcome three new walkers. We now have traveled 2,525 miles. We would love to have you join us as we cross the Atlantic. It is 3,386 miles to Lisbon. Our goal is to log the number of miles that it would take to travel from the church of the transfiguration to Mt. Tabor in Israel, the site of Jesus’s transfiguration. The distance is more than 7,000 miles.
Walking over 7,000 miles would seem like a daunting task but with a combined effort we will make it. So a new walker has been added to our roster. That walker is all of us. From the parking lot to the altar and back to the parking lot is 206 steps. If one hundred of us made that trip for communion we would have logged more than 2,000 steps. That is a mile. If 50 people walked over to the Parish Hall for fellowship, that would add an additional ½ mile. Since we started walking on Wednesday there have been about 44 Sundays. Thus, the Transfiguration community has logged 66 miles. This is a conservative estimate based on very low attendance numbers. In the future the numbers will be more accurate.
