Spread the joy
October 9, 2016
I am truly grateful to all of you who generously share your time, talents and treasure for the betterment of our church community. During October our church is focusing on the importance of stewardship to the mission of the Church of the Transfiguration.
“Members help the church to fulfill its mission by giving generous support
The message of stewardship is simple even though it may be confusing to some. What has God entrusted to each of us, and how are we stewarding what has been placed in our care?
During the month of October, members of our church community are sharing with you their personal journey as stewards of God’s gifts. We are all aware of the very limited resources that are available to us as individuals. Sometimes we have to struggle to make ends meet. The same is true for our church. We are challenged each week to meet the financial needs of this church complex. We are grateful for what you have already done and now we invite you to consider an increase of your financial commitment to Transfiguration's mission and ministry for the coming year. To accomplish the mission of the church, to continue the work of Jesus, is a vocation each of us accepted in Baptism, and to which we recommit ourselves each time we come forward to receive Holy Communion. Through stewardship we are asked to reexamine our priorities and determine if they are reflective of our commitment.
On November 13 we will have our Stewardship Commitment Sunday. Enclosed is a commitment card for you to complete. As we bless our commitments, we will prayerfully reflect on God’s generosity and recommit to nurturing and sharing the gifts we have received. If Transfiguration is to be effective both in the near and distant future, we need a grateful and generous sharing of time, talent, and material resources from all our church members.
I pray that God will inspire each of us to open our minds and hearts to the call of stewardship so we can continue to build the Body of Christ and bring God’s love and compassion to all.
Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine.
Yours in Christ,
The Church of the Transfiguration

Our 2016 Stewardship theme is “Bountiful Blessings.” I chose this theme because my heart is thankful for all God’s blessings in my life. Jan and I are blessed to have been a part of this church community for two years during which we have received so much love from everyone here. I am thankful for those who volunteer for this church and for your past contributions, both monetary and non-monetary, which have enabled Transfiguration to become a strong, thriving, giving church. I am thankful for the love of God in Jesus Christ.
We have been bountifully blessed with a harvest of chiles and corn from our garden that will be sold to raise funds for outreach. Additionally, we have harvested the fruits from our ministries and other initiatives. The work at Transfiguration has brought a harvest of small groups which are meeting, learning, and most of all, connecting people in new or deeper ways. The long, hard tilling of generous giving of time, talent and treasure is bearing fruit in a new name tag holder, pew cushions, choir music, Children’s Education program and prayer shawls and quilts, along with changes to liturgy and adult formation and plans for stained glass windows. All this is happening while we continue our existing outreach, fellowship and service ministries. This, in turn, will be the tilling and hoeing that leads to additional mission and ministry from our church.
As with every field and orchard we need to invest in seed and sowing, tilling, watering and weeding. One way in the life of a church we do that is through making a financial commitment, a pledge, to assist the vestry in planning for 2016. This is the season in which we ask everyone who looks forward to the fruits to consider her or his pledge for the year 2016. If you gave this year your statement is attached. I ask that you considering going out on a limb to give generously to the church. During Sundays in October/November we will be hearing testimony about living as a faithful steward at Transfiguration: why someone gives and serves.
Transfiguration is not a wealthy church but like many families we live within our budget. Thankfully we have no debt but that requires that everyone pitch in. We have lost many families due to death or moves so your help in even more important for next year.
I am asking all members to bring a completed 2016 pledge card to worship on Stewardship Pledge Sunday, November 8. We will bless the pledges (form included) during our services as we give thanks for your generosity. If you cannot attend on November 8th, please bring or mail your pledge to the church office as soon as possible. Beginning November 12, volunteers will be following up with members who have not yet submitted a pledge, so your promptness will make their job easier.
I look forward to seeing you on Pledge Sunday, November 8th to celebrate the harvest and sharing of our commitments. Your generosity will enable us to further plant and grow our initiatives and ministries.
May you feel God’s bountiful blessings,

Thank you for attending the Church of the Transfiguration. My hope is that you have been touched by something at our Church. Perhaps a sermon, a prayer, or the music spoke to something deep in you. Maybe it was seeing the impact of our work toward helping others. Perhaps it was just the welcome you felt from others at the church.
On Sunday, November 20, 2016 we had a blessing of the 2017 pledges following the offering. We'd like to thank all of you who turned in your pledge. If you have not turned in your 2017 pledge, please put your completed pledge card to put in the basket for the blessing.
