A Blog by Rev. Dan Herron

Several years ago a song was released called “One Of Us” and the catch phrase in the song was “What if God Was One Of Us.”  Imagine that, God being one of us.  Silly isn’t?

But, if we could, for a moment, use our imaginations and see ourselves in a mall or a grocery store and see a person who looks very familiar and yet, we know we have never seen this person before.  We are strangely drawn to him (or her) and we want to say hello or just smile to see what the reaction might be but as soon as we muster the courage they turn up another aisle.

You want to follow but you don’t want to feel like a stalker so you race down another aisle instead and catch him as he appears from the other aisle.  Your mouth is wide open, as you see his face and he simply smiles.  There is a pause in your life at this moment like no other you have ever experienced as you see him continuing his way, yet you know your life is somehow forever changed.

Can something like this happen?  Could the Creator of All be found shopping?  I guess if she (or he) is hungry why not?  After all, who would  cook for God?

I know, I know, this sounds silly doesn’t it?  But in reality is it?  After all we are made in the “image and likeness” (Genesis 1.27) of God.  And if we believe this, I mean really believe this who might that person in the grocery store be?  If the person is a woman could it not be God?  Or, or if the person is badly unshaven and needs a shower could he...  How about the person who looks like he  just came over a wall to get here could he...

The point is simple, if we ask the question “What if God Was One Of Us,”  He answer is yes, he/she is, in all of us.
